Date: September 26, 2016
Categories: Payments, technology, Transaction Banking
Keywords: Mashreq Bank, Apple, Siri, Payments

Mashreq has become the first bank in the UAE to integrate with Apple’s Siri for voice-powered payments. The new mobile banking feature allows customers to transfer payments using Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri. While online and mobile banking continues to be a key focus for Mashreq, this adds to a host of recent additions that make banking with Mashreq a convenient and innovative experience for its customers.

First-time users will need to download the new iOS10 update and register for voice banking services. They will then receive a one-time password (OTP) that will allow them to confirm the registration and start using the service. To transfer payments, users will simply need to tell Siri how much they want to send, to who, and confirm using either their PIN or touch identification.

Aref Al Ramli, Head of Electronic Banking and Innovation at Mashreq said: “The integration empowers customers to make quick and safe payments. The voice empowered payments is always connected, ready and fast. We are proud to be the first bank in the UAE to announce this feature. The new addition underlines our continuous efforts to make Mashreq banking experience an even more enhanced and interactive one – and the result is that our customers can now transfer money in much more simpler form.”

With security in mind, the new feature only works on password protected devices. Transfers can only be sent to registered contacts in the phone and the limits are low keeping it anywhere from AED 1 to AED 500. Transfers can be to UAE accounts initially and SMS alert get generated at the time of transfer and also once the debit takes place.
