Kenneth Lai promoted to OCBC's head of global treasury

Banking veteran Kenneth Lai was named OCBC's new head of global treasury effective on Oct 1, in an internal appointment that is part of the bank's leadership renewal.

He will be reporting directly to OCBC's group chief executive officer Samuel Tsien, and will also be appointed as a member of the bank's management committee.

Mr Lai will be taking over from Lam Kun Kin, senior executive vice-president and head of global treasury, who is retiring after 33 years in the financial industry.

Prior to joining OCBC in 2012, Kenneth worked for Ta Chong Bank in Taiwan, where he was appointed by the Carlyle Group to help revamp their investment buy out. Before moving to Taiwan, Kenneth was based in Singapore where he worked for ABN AMRO bank from 2001 to 2008 and held several key appointments including Asia Head of Institutional Sales. He started his career at Banker Trust Company and has also worked for other financial institutions including Merrill Lynch and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

Throughout his career, Kenneth has actively contributed to the financial markets community, having served on the SFEMC FX sub-committee (2003-2004), and ACI Singapore as Deputy President (2004-2006). He was appointed in 2016 as a member to the FMRP Examination Board. He also actively participates in several industry wide initiatives, such as the RMB Industry Working Group and Singapore Financial Leaders Network.

Kenneth graduated with a degree in Finance from Virginia Tech in 1989
